This summer, OneEnergy visited the Aldo Leopold Nature Center in Monona, WI to talk to young campers about solar energy. The Aldo Leopold Nature Center (ALNC) engages, educates, and empowers students to protect, respect, and enjoy the natural world. ALNC hosts a summer camp that provides hands-on experiences that engages students to the wonders of nature.
The Polliwogs (6-year-olds) and Explorers (9-year-olds) had a multitude of questions about renewable energy, and were thrilled to see a solar panel up close. The campers looked at the Nature Center’s rooftop solar where they saw the panels in action. The visit also included a walk through the prairie to see which native plants are the ideal height for pollinator-friendly ground-mounted solar. The campers learned about the importance of native plants in supporting pollinators like bees and butterflies.
At OneEnergy, we recognize the importance of nurturing the younger generations' passion for clean energy and environmental stewardship. Through our DEI program, we work to amplify our impact through community engagement and hope to visit the Aldo Leopold Nature Center again for more youth learning.
